Since birth, except for when he was abroad for studies and up until his marriage, Ali Khalid lived and grew up at his home M.Finifaru; owned by his father Khalid Adam and located in the Maafannu ward of Malé.
Upon finishing school at the tender age of 17, Ali joined a Felivaru tuna processing factory under Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCo). During his long service at MIFCo Ali served with different departments throughout the company. At the time of leaving MIFCo, Ali was head of Sales and Marketing, driving a team tasked with the responsibility of reinvigorating a company in a severe financial downturn. He helped improve the fresh yellow fin tuna yield at a time when the cannery was making losses. Ali’s approach of changing key processes in canning and production eventually lead to positive financial growth for the company – he was also a key figure in introducing new products to the local market; infusing MIFCo’s new, and old, products with vigour.
With the de-monopolisation of the Telecommunications sector, Ali joined new entrant Wataniya Telecom Pvt. Ltd, where he would head up the Sales Department, taking up the key role of establishing retail access to the company’s products and services across the country.
The democratisation wave swept the Maldives in 2000, and along with it came the drive towards opening up the media sector. Ali was tapped to serve the then State Broadcaster TVM, an organiaation in need of modern management processes, and strategies, to remain competitive in a now open market. Ali guided TVM, and laid the groundwork, during and leading up to the first ever multi-party democratic elections in the Maldives.
Ali served as the Chief Communications Officer at the President’s Office for over one and a half years.
Among his many significant achievements is the authoring the book “Vazeefa ah Nukunna Iru”; a young person’s initiation guide to joining the workforce.
Ali has spent a decade in media, with the same amount of time spent in establishing and running his business interests.
In his spare time Ali likes to read, blog and exercise – he is an avid long distance runner.
He studied in Australia and Malaysia completing his higher studies in Business.
Ali is the 4th in a family of 5 and lives with his wife and son.
